Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare to assess conservation requirements
  • Identify from relevant personnel and job instructions the assessment’s purpose and requirements
  • Inspect the location of the designed glass installation and identify security, access, storage and other relevant arrangements
  • Identify hazards relating to the location, work practices, materials, tools and equipment, and check risk treatments are in place and operating
  • Select and check all required tools and equipment are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
  • Identify suitable assessment procedures and techniques and obtain approval from relevant personnel to use them
  • Gather plans, historical documents and industry standards for the installation

  • Position plans and historical documents to allow for confirmation of the structure and placement of the designed glass installation
  • Photograph the installation to create a photographic sequence documenting its condition and for later reference
  • Identify and document the installation’s structural and other relevant features, faults and past treatments according to workplace procedures
  • Assess and document the impacts on the installation of environmental factors according to workplace procedures
  • Clean up the assessment area, identify items for recycling and dispose of waste
  • Check, clean and do routine maintenance on equipment and tools and store them and unused materials

  • Determine required conservation work identified by the assessment with relevant personnel
  • Prepare a condition report with photographic sequences, assessment evidence, analysis and recommended conservation work
  • Identify and estimate materials, subcontracted services, direct and indirect costs, overheads and mark-ups according to workplace procedures
  • Prepare and document a proposal for the recommended conservation work with the scope of work, estimates, relevant variation and other conditions and timeframes according to workplace procedures

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
